Health Policy Plus Project

Health Policy Plus (HP+) is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. The project’s HIV activities are supported by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

HP+ strengthens and advances health policy priorities at global, national, and sub-national levels. The project aims to improve the enabling environment for equitable and sustainable health services, supplies, and delivery systems through policy design, implementation, and financing. HP+ is a partnership between Palladium, Avenir Health, Futures Group Global Outreach, Plan International USA, Population Reference Bureau, RTI International, the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, and ThinkWell.

DOVENET has joined partnership with the Health Policy plus and the government to education Nigerians on health policies and benefits available to them, and also how to access these benefits for the betterment of the health of the nation.
with support from the Health Policy Plus, DOVENET has conducted town-hall meetings in 6 wards (Inyere, Amuda, Nkomoro, Umuome, Ekka, Ogboji) of Ezza North LGA Ebonyi State. The overall goal of this activity was to create awareness to targeted population (community elites, WDCs, Community Leaders, Women/Men groups, Youth groups, Community volunteers, pregnant women), Community Stakeholders in 6 wards of Ezza North LGA of Ebonyi state and the general populace within Ebonyi with Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) and State Health Insurance Scheme(SHIS) package Messages.

Objectives:
*    To identify and mobilize relevant community stakeholders for BHCPF Town-hall meetings and enrollment.
*    To conduct community town hall meetings in 6 wards of Ezza North,Ebonyi State.
*    To create awareness to targeted population on Basic Healthcare Provision Fund(BHCPF) and State Health Insurance                                   Scheme(SHIS) package through town-hall meetings.
*    To strengthen access to the designated primary health care facilities and their services.

On Friday, the 2nd of August, 2019 DOVENET staff/BHCPF Facilitators along with the Ezza North LGA Social Mobilization Officer (SMO), Awo Chidi, conducted a Town hall meeting at Inyere Ward under the Health Policy Plus. 

During this meeting, the biggest health need in the community was identified and the team explained that Basic Health Care Provision Fund is a medium which the Nigerian government has developed to address and improve their needs, as it would strengthen and achieve the Universal Health Coverage. The targeted vulnerable groups under the BHCPF are the Pregnant women, the Under 5 years children, the Disabled persons, the Elderly persons of 85 years and above, the poor and vulnerable. 

Among the participants were the OIC/WDCs and their roles towards the enrollment and access to basic health packages of the community members was also explained. The role of the Local Government Health Authority and the Public Health Sectors was made known. There are 9 intervention and 52 services (Basic Minimum Package of Health services) and its target group. 

At the end, attendance was taken with the total number of participants adding up to 180 with 67 male and 113 female in attendance.
