With the support from Friends of Nigeria, DOVENET reached out to the Okposhi-Eshi community of Ohaukwu LGA and Ndiagu-Amagu community of Ikwo LGA with appropriate messages on fistula prevention, detection, and treatment in September 2020.
During her visit to these communities, DOVENET organized various activities aimed at reaching the grassroots levels with messages on how to detect, prevent and treat obstetric fistula which affects many women and girls within their community. Appropriate messages on antenatal care, family planning, prevention of prolonged and obstructed labor, along with the creation of awareness on the availability of health care facilities. The activities carried out include town-hall meetings, community dialogues, review meetings, church outreaches, client mobilization, and home visits.
The success of these activities was made possible because of the structure set up by DOVENET at the grass-root level. Participants in the various activities include the DOVENET team and volunteers, community leaders, traditional leaders, village heads, women leaders, youth leaders, market women, ward development committees, civil society organizations, social mobilization officers, health workers, and community members.
