The International Day of the Girl (IDG) – observed annually on 11 October – is a global platform to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights.
The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being”. This is coming at a time when there is an urgent need to pay extra attention to the health and well-being of girls.
From maternal health care and parenting support for adolescent mothers, to digital and life skills training; from comprehensive sexuality education to survivor support services and violence prevention programmes; there is an urgent need for increased attention and resourcing for the key areas that enable girls to realize their rights and achieve their full potential.
On this day, DOVENET joins the Global Community to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, moving beyond reaffirming commitments and investing boldly in the action needed to make that change.
We envision a world where girls have space to shape government policy to inform the rules and norms, direct the priorities for new research and innovations and take charge of their health and well-being.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD
