The Office of the First Lady of Ebonyi State in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MOWA-SD) organized a road walk to mark the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation(FGM) which is observed globally on February 6thto spread awareness with a view to eradicating FGM by 2030.

This year, the UN Joint Program launched the 2022 theme “Accelerating Investment to End Female Genital Mutilation.” It calls on the global community to invest in programs that provide services and response for those who are affected and those who are at risk. It should also include developing and enforcing laws to eradicate FGM.
The objective of the road walk was to carry out a mass sensitization on the dangers of FGM and to intimate the public on the measures and sanctions adopted by the Office of the First Lady to combat FGM henceforth.
DOVENET being an advocate of equity and social justice, took part in this road walk to further demonstrate its non-tolerance to gender-based violence in all its forms and guise.
