All over the world, women and girls faces discriminations and violence based upon sex, rape, caste, etc. this limits their participation in school, family, life and economic activities leading to high maternal mortality and morbidity rate, discrimination among genders, early forced marriage among others.
In other to mitigate those problems, the Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) project seeks address major contributors to maternal mortality and morbidity through the prevention and mitigation of the consequences of violence against women and girls (VAW/G) and possible drivers of child early and forced marriage. One way of doing this is through the CHOICES, VOICES, PROMISES (CVP) and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) cohort sessions which targets the in-school & out-of-school adolescents, the parents, community activists and community leaders.
DOVENET participated in the four-day training of facilitators on the use of the CVP & ASRH toolkits from the 15th of May 2023 to the 18th of May 2023. This training took place at DOVENET’s Conference Hall 3 Ifitedunu Street, Okpaugwu Abakaliki in Ebonyi State.
The training had two main objective which are:
- To ensure that trainers (facilitators and supervisors) have the knowledge and skills to understand the CHOICES and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) approach.
- To ensure that the trainers are able to conduct CHOICES and ASRH small group sessions with adolescents.
The participants were trained on various topics from the toolkits. Some of these topics include the general understanding of the CVP & ASRH approaches; the understanding of the small group approach; how to facilitate a small group; and understanding of GBV and its various forms.
